Bighorn County
Rich in diversity, the Municipal District of Bighorn is located on the eastern slopes of the Alberta Rocky Mountains. The Municipal District’s eastern boundary is approximately 31 kilometres west of Calgary. The borders of the Municipal District of Bighorn are: East by the Municipal District of Rocky View and Mountain View County, North by Clearwater County, South by Kananaskis Improvement District, West by the Town of Canmore and Banff National Park.
The Municipal District is a large rural municipality covering approximately 2,664 square km’s (1,029 square miles). On average each year, (2020-2025), the following communities that make up Bighorn County had the following number of MLS real estate sales: Canmore (540), Dead Man’s Flats (23), Exshaw (7), Ghost Lake (1-2), Harvie Heights (11), Lac Des Arcs (3), Waiparous (3), Benchlands (1-2) and general Rural property sales of 5 per year make up the real estate sales activity in the county.
Agricultural activities, forestry, oil and gas developments and recreational ranches are characteristic of the foothills portion of the municipality. Bighorn County is the playground for many Calgarians and a sought after place to live or have a recreational property. The countryside and local mountain activities attract people from all over the world. It is truly one of the nicest areas in Canada to visit, explore, live, recharge and breathe fresh mountain air.
