Willowcreek
Reaching from the Porcupine Hills in the west to Vulcan County and the County of Lethbridge in the east, the Municipal District of Willow Creek No. 26 boasts an enviable diversity of terrain, people and economic opportunity. Blessed with good agricultural land, the municipality is populated by multi-generation farm and ranch operations; as well as newcomers who have moved here to enjoy the prairie landscape with the Rocky Mountains in full view. Oil and gas continue to bolster the local economy and tourism has become a growth industry for the region. One of the largest wind farms in Canada in located in Willow Creek County.
The urban communities are the towns of Claresholm, Fort Macleod, Canton and Stavely. The hamlets included in Willow Creek County are Granum, Moon River and Parkland. The county consists of lands that follow the hwy 2 corridor from about 30 minutes south of Calgary to about 30 minutes north of the USA border. Claresholm has a population of 3,800, Fort Macleod has 3,800 residents also, Stavely is home to 560 souls, and the rural county has approximately 6,000 people living in it. The county has a stable population with only 250 homes and 35 parcels of land selling per year on average in the whole county including all the towns and hamlets.
